At least that's the plan. I will of course create a few custom lists for Optio, but the system is intended to be played using the lists of other popular rulesets: DBA, DBM(M), ADLG, Mortem et Gloriam, To The Strongest!, Legion, Lost Battles, etc. Naturally you have to own or buy these lists from their publishers who are welcome to sling me some bling for promoting them. The plan is to fit a ruleset's troop types into Optio troop type categories, then determine how many generals and commanders each army requires, and the initial morale rating of the troop types in that army. The player is free to assemble his army according to the list's rules, then organise them into units (or Command Groups) and assign those units to commands under commanders. And then play. The idea is that players can pull out their favourite armies and use them without having to buy or base a thing. Anything to promote laziness. I would appreciate input from players who have become familiar with Optio in making up these tweaks to the popular lists. How are troop types from other systems reclassified in the Optio universe? Who gets to be veteran, average or levy? How good are generals in command and combat ability? How much does their death or flight unsettle their army? I'll be starting with DBA as it's one of the most popular rulesets around, doesn't have huge armies and I'm familiar with it. Here's the provisional WIP plan for it:
